Goodness is Still Around! Help to Make it Expand!

Recently, I got an opportunity to visit the Radio Mirchi Head Office at Indore. The Classmate Spellbee results were out, and I had found out that I'd qualified for the national semi-finals!! My head had exploded in dual-coloured emotions, surprise as well as delight; surprise, as I had most certainly not even dreamt of qualifying for India's most popular spelling competition; and delight, as being amongst the top 50 spellers in the city was an immense honour.
Nevertheless, I was a bit apprehensive as I'd always imagined radio studios and newspaper offices as small, cramped and stuffy. When I entered the office, I received a pleasant surprise, as it far from what I'd imagined. It was spacious and very comfortable! RJ Kabir was greeting all the contestants and was warmly welcoming them. We were asked to wait in the adjoining room. While the preparations for the competition were being made, he was chatting with all of us amicably, trying to make everybody feel at home and ease our nervousness. However most of them were unresponsive! But this did not discourage him from trying to be friendly. He had a knack for making conversation. This is such a wonderful quality which all of us should try and inculcate in our lives. Conversational skills help in making contacts, building relationships, strengthening bonds and attracting friends! I wished that I could be like him!
While returning, we boarded an i-bus. The i-bus facility is a very convenient one where seats are reserved for men and women! Though there are more seats for men than women, it's a good step towards gender equality. The great thing is, everybody respects and follows that rule! Neither does any man sit in the reserved section, nor is he allowed to. The bus which we boarded was very crowded, a common public transport issue. An elderly lady also boarded it along with us. A pair of girls was sitting by the window.  Upon seeing the lady, they stood up and offered it to her.! My faith in humanity was rekindled! At the next stop, the lady elbowed past the same girls who had given up their seats for her; roughly shoving them aside as she went past them!! I looked after her with surprise and incredulity! I wondered; How can two peoples actions toward each other be so drastically in contrast?
2 lessons were bestowed upon me that day:

  • We should try and be friendly to everyone around us. Many of us, including me ,will hesitate to make conversation or will give up if the other replies in monosyllables. But who knows, perhaps he/she is even more shy than you are! Sometimes a small 'hello' can make a person's day!
  • We should help people. A small, good deed a day makes our life better. Many times people will accept it reluctantly or will not be grateful for it. No doubt, this'll make us angry. I, for instance for surprised that the lady could behave in such a shocking way! But wishing and doing good for others will be gratefully and thankfully accepted by most people and we should make happy in the thought that we helped liven up somebody's day.
Alas, if only just saying and preaching good things would make people better! Then all us mundanes would have fantastic personalities! Paradise would descend on Earth.Unfortunately, only when words are converted into actions will they be proof that we mean what we say.
By nature, I'm not an extrovert, but I do like to try and make new friends. I, too am trying to make these 2 beautiful and priceless qualities a part of me. It is very difficult to change. To me; it seems impossible at times. It comes slowly but surely. It's lack of speed tests my patience. For God's sake, why can't it speed up? Many obstacles also come between us and change. People hurt you, destiny plays games. Its like you are on one side of a river and Change is on the other bank. But there is no bridge and the current is too strong for you to swim across. But in the end, when we'll get past all this, I think that we'll experience immense satisfaction!
          BE GOOD, WISH GOOD AND DO GOOD!
The Earth is fast losing its goodness. Let humanity be renewed by our help!

  1. Hello Harshita,
    I just found your blog. That must have been exciting to be part of the spelling bee! I agree with your blog post. Many times, I say good things, but I don't always do the good things I talk about.

    Have you heard the good news of Jesus Christ? I noticed you wrote about how our earth is losing its goodness. Our earth lost its goodness when Adam and Eve sinned. They decided to eat the forbidden fruit that God had told them not to eat. Now, sin is passed on to each human who is born. Sin separates us from God's holiness. But, God sent His only Son to the world to die. He paid the price for our sin and erased our debt. He rose from the dead after three days in the tomb.

    Romans 6:23: The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    2 Corinthians 5:21: For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

    Now we have a choice. We can choose to accept Jesus Christ's free gift of salvation. Or we can reject it, and try to work our way to Heaven. The problem is, all our works are like filthy rags in God's sight. We can never do enough to pay for our sins.

    “There is none righteous, no, not one;
    There is none who understands;
    There is none who seeks after God.
    They have all turned aside;
    They have together become unprofitable;
    There is none who does good, no, not one."
    Romans 3:10-12

    For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
    Romans 5:6-8

    I hope you will think about this wonderful message!
    Have a blessed day.

  2. Thanks! Yes, it sure was exciting to be a part of Spellbee. I agree with you, I do say good things and read beautiful quotes but seldom follow them in my life. That's why they say "Practise what you preach."According to mythology, the sin committed by Adam and Eve when they betrayed God was the greatest the world had ever seen. But I believe that we humans and the new generation can overcome that sin not only by choosing the path of the Gods; but also by simply saying kind words, greeting each other and helping strangers. Small things make big differences!
    Do keep viewing my blogs! It feels nice when somebody appreciates your words!
    Have a good day Elizabeth!

Holiday Diaries: BANDHAVGARH! #2 The Journey To An Exotic Forest!

The Diwali vacations were round the corner and I was excited to go on holiday! Though, our school spared not even a week for us to thoroughly enjoy ourselves, we children (and teachers) were still looking forward to this much-needed break from varying degrees of stress in our lives. My family was in the process of finalising a holiday destination and were debating upon whether we should go to Delhi. I; for one, was thrilled! I had been wanting to visit the capital for some time now, so when the topic of vacationing arose, I was the first to pipe up and suggest Delhi. Seeing the various, stunning monuments would have been enjoyable as well as an excellent learning experience! However, much to my disappointment, we collectively agreed to the cancellation due to the terrible pollution (which can already be observed and felt), but which would increase during Diwali. My father told us that he'd booked tickets for our stay in Jabalpur and Bandhavgarh. I'll admit it: when I first h

A Salute To Paralympians All Across The Globe!

Hey readers!! Apologies for not posting a single piece of writing  for such a long time! But today, I'm back with something which will make you ponder and spark a train of thought in your minds. India quivered with joy when "Thangavelu wins first gold medal at Summer Paralympics, 2016" was the blaring headline on every single news channel. With a contingent of 19 athletes, the largest delegation our country has ever sent to a Paralympic event, expectations of improving India's Paralympic medal tally had been roused. Their superb display of talent certainly outdid everybody's expectations! Citizens from all around the world go on a rave when the Olympics draws nearer, and it is fitting too; the prestigious event is hosted only once every 4 years! But how many of us; truly know and eagerly follow the proceedings of the event, equally as important as its predecessor, and which follows soon after it draws to a close? We know of Sindhu, Malik and Dipa Karmakar

Colour.

Colour breathes joy and life into every creation, whether ancient or modern. Skin tones progress from palest white and dusky wheat to darkest ebony. In the words of Rupi Kaur – ‘It is a blessing to be The colour of the Earth How often must Flowers confuse me for Home.’ A prism splits light into all of its magnificence. Stained glass windows in high-ceilinged churches make light dance across the polished wooden floor. The sun sets over the horizon and plunges within cerulean seas and oceans. Left in its wake are splashes of colour; crimson, orange and golden, skipping across the waves, cruising along the blue surf. Inky stains bleed across the sky as twilight approaches. The advent of velvety indigo, purple and black symbolize them regaining their nightly territory and thus ensues a clash of colour- a real-life watercolour over the ocean. Night tiptoes stealthily and the crescent moon glides, her creamy gossamer gown trailing and dipping into the water. It has floate
