Celebrating the Joy of Giving

Winter is all about snow, gifts and undoubtedly, Christmas! With the fun-filled celebration around the corner, the atmosphere wears a merry, festive and joyous look. Everybody starts gearing up for the D-Day, the 25th of December! People bustle around, speculating the amount of work yet to be done. Gifts start piling up in shopping carts, one for each loved one. Christmas really is all about the spirit and joy of giving and receiving.
Decorations start filling shops and people flock in by the dozen. Stars, festoons, lighting, candies, tinsel, you name it and they’re all there. These ornaments do make Christmas trees magical and stunning to look at.
Trees are set up all around town as well as in hundreds of houses and are decorated with the brightest lighting, the shiniest festoons and topped with the classic fairies. Holly leaves glint on every door and lush, red berries add to the liveliness. Everybody tries their utmost to make their homes warm and cosy by lighting inviting fires.

The presence of snow makes the whole affair ever more exciting. Snowmen shaped by loving hands grin in backyards, their carrot-noses almost falling off. Children are bundled up in sweaters, gloves and mufflers and vicious snowball fights are underway! Marshmallows toast away on grills.
Today on Christmas Eve, delicious aromas will waft out through windows, belonging to the different delicacies of a Christmas feast. At night, people will throng into churches and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who, in turn gave birth to the largest religion in the world. The air will vibrate with the melodies of Christmas carols.

Children are by far, the most excited ones. They await gifts which they wished for that will be brought by their beloved Santa Claus. Tomorrow, on Christmas, thousands of them will wake up to find the gifts which they so longed for. But shouldn't we, the blessed give a thought to those children who live on the streets and whose parents don’t have enough money to give their children two square meals a day? To those children, who freeze to death? How would they feel if we give them one, small gift for Christmas, which they equally love to celebrate? Wouldn't they feel blessed? I'm sure we would. It is certainly something to think about.

Colour.

Colour breathes joy and life into every creation, whether ancient or modern. Skin tones progress from palest white and dusky wheat to darkest ebony. In the words of Rupi Kaur – ‘It is a blessing to be The colour of the Earth How often must Flowers confuse me for Home.’ A prism splits light into all of its magnificence. Stained glass windows in high-ceilinged churches make light dance across the polished wooden floor. The sun sets over the horizon and plunges within cerulean seas and oceans. Left in its wake are splashes of colour; crimson, orange and golden, skipping across the waves, cruising along the blue surf. Inky stains bleed across the sky as twilight approaches. The advent of velvety indigo, purple and black symbolize them regaining their nightly territory and thus ensues a clash of colour- a real-life watercolour over the ocean. Night tiptoes stealthily and the crescent moon glides, her creamy gossamer gown trailing and dipping into the water. It has floate...

When I Contemplate

The camera attempts to capture a moment- a fleeting second in the swirling whirlpools of time. It captures that moment and immortalizes it, framing it in eternity. Days may pass, years and even decades, but that picture will hang on the wall, making you travel back in time involuntarily. Suddenly, you will be thrust back in time and will feel as if you’re actually witnessing that moment all over again, like you did, all those years ago. It is, as if, no time has elapsed between then and now. Perhaps, that feeling is transient, but you cannot deny it.    The camera captures what the mind perceives, what the eye sees. It enables us to hold on to the image formed by the thousands of electric impulses that zoomed from the optic nerve to the brain at that second. But, more often than not, we associate many moments with an emotion. Looking at the vast, all-encompassing cerulean ocean or the towering trees in a forest, I feel an unexplainable calm and peace. I question my existe...

The All Rounder

Women- emotional, yet strong, sensitive, yet resistant, friendly, yet reserved, are one of the most marvellous creatures crafted by God, He shaped delicate shoulders, soft hands but a mind with powers undreamt and unknown. He added a generous sprinkling of sympathy, love and kindness. Well, perhaps he mixed a teeny pinch of stubbornness too! Once finished, God himself was awestruck at this exquisite creation and masterpiece in front of him.   In many villages, women are regarded as some kind of an instrument for bearing children. She is restricted to the house and cannot enjoy the luxurious life and comforts that men have. Let alone villages, even in mega cities, it is manys’ belief that it only the women who should do all the household chores. Who cares about her dreams and aspirations? Who cares about what she wants to do? Does she want to go out and work ? No, who will have the time to bother about what she wants? Family commitments overshadow it all. Despite living in the 21...
